WebP image format implementation
If you analyze your store with Page Speed tests, you may notice a point reminding you to serve images in next-gen formats:

We've developed our own solution, implementing the WebP image format on stores and web pages. The WebP format is liked the most by Google, because they created it :)
Unlike some modules available on the market:
- our solution is a standalone script, it adds no load to the store and does not attach itself to any hook
- in case the WebP equivalent is not yet ready, the original image gets served, instead of a "missing image"
- we analyze the whole store and all the images it displays (by modules like banners, sliders, blogs), everything we find we convert to WebP, not only product images
- we implement everything from A to Z, so no wondering about how to configure the compresssion or how to set up the CRON task
One of the stores, where we implemented this solution had a 4,08GB total size of orignal images, while the WebP equivalents took only 1,56GB. As you can see, savings exceed half of the image size. On the home page we noted a drop of image resources size from 3MB to 1,4MB, so over a half of the required transfer less, significantly reducing the time required by the end customer to display the page.
From a back office point od view, this solution is fully transparent and requires no changes in a way you manage your content. You still upload JPG or PNG images as before, the WebP conversion is done in the background on a server level.
Full cost of implemeting this solution is 89EUR, in case you're interested please contact us!
